Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, Dies at 71
The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 following a prolonged illness. He died on Friday morning in Abuja, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to his people and the nation .
Dr. Bello ascended to the throne as the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, succeeding his late father. Prior to his royal duties, he had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states .
His passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from various quarters. Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State expressed deep sorrow, describing the late Emir as a "pillar of support and a dedicated leader." He extended condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Emir's family, and the people of Zamfara, acknowledging the significant loss to the state and the nation .
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, also mourned the Emir's death, highlighting his commitment to peace, unity, and development initiatives. He referred to the late Emir as a "brother, a leader, and a friend," whose absence would be profoundly felt .
In line with Islamic traditions, the funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) for the late Emir was conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Gusau Central Jumu’ah Mosque, followed by burial at the Gusau Emir’s palace Jumu’at Mosque .
Dr. Ibrahim Bello's death marks the end of an era of steadfast leadership in the Gusau Emirate. His contributions to the development and unity of Zamfara State will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him.
