🇳🇬 President Tinubu Honors Triumphant Super Falcons with National Awards, Cash and Housing 🏆

Abuja, July 28, 2025 — In a grand ceremony at the Presidential Villa, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of Nigeria’s 24 Super Falcons—following their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory.

Each player received a cash award equivalent to USD 100,000, while members of the technical crew were granted USD 50,000 each, reflecting the nation’s appreciation for their dedication and performance. 


🏘️ Housing and Additional Support

President Tinubu also announced that every player and technical staff member would be allocated a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate, symbolizing long-term recognition beyond monetary rewards. 

Additionally, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by the Kwara State Governor, pledged ₦10 million (~USD 10,000) to each player and crew member in acknowledgment of their achievement.

Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu lauded the Falcons for their resilience and skill—highlighting their remarkable comeback in the final, where they overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Morocco 3–2 and secure the championship. “This victory goes beyond football. It’s a message to our girls and young women that with determination, anything is possible,” Tinubu declared. 

This is widely considered one of the most significant and generous recognitions ever awarded to Nigerian women’s sports by any administration.

Jigawa Boat Tragedy: 16 Girls Involved, 4 Bodies Recovered, 5 Missing

Incident Overview On Sunday, 27 July 2025, at approximately 17:00 hrs, a wooden boat carrying 17 passengers—16 of whom were girls aged between 10 and 13—capsized mid-river on its journey from Digawa Village (Jahun LGA) to Zangon Maje town (Taura LGA), in Jigawa State .
